Venue: The Observatory
City: Santa Ana, CA
Set length: About 40 minutes
Kimm reached out and said that they were playing with 7 Seconds and The Adolescents at the old Galaxy venue (now called The Observatory) and asked if I wanted to come down and hang out with the family. I’m in!
My gear for the night was:
- Camera: Canon 5D Mark III
- Flash: None
- Lenses: Canon 200mm f/2.8 and Canon’s 24-70mm f/2.8, 15mm f/2.8.
I’ve been shooting here for years and have always had a lot of fun photographing the bands at this venue. Word of advice, get here early if you want to park in the venue lot because if not you will have a little walking to do. Great venue, decent sound, decent lighting (except for the occasional oversaturated LEDs), cool staff, never a hassle, ‘nough said!
It is located at:

Reviews, comments, and possible putdowns for The Vermin…
So even though I have known Dirk and Rucks since the early 1990’s, and Dirk has done all of my tattoo work, I had no idea that that they were playing on this bill, check out www.aercosystems.com. They drove in from Vegas for the evening and I didn’t get a call – fuckers! As soon as I had my ticket checked I heard the familiar sounds of The Vermin coming from the main hall and immediately turned to Melodi and said “THAT’S THE VERMIN – I’ll see you later!!” She knew that I didn’t want to miss a shot and she watched me run into the hall, headed for the pit. I have photos of Dirk Vermin when he only had a single tattoo on his arm – that is how long I’ve been a fan of The Vermin (they used to be called Vermin from Venus, which is a name they got from that fun 1986 movie called F/X). Go check out Dirk, Ruckus and Turbo the next time they are playing in your town – you might regret it but you’ll have fun!
