Pre-show banter…
Mike Watt and the Secondmen play the Redwood Bar & Grill to benefit the Punk Rock Rovers team for the Pasadena Humane Society’s Wiggle Waggle Walk.
My gear for the night was:
Camera: Canon 5D Mark III
Flash: None
Lenses: Canon 15mm f/2.8 Fisheye and Canon’s 24-70mm f/2.8.
ISO was high and the aperture settings low. Okay, here we go…
Venue review…
Perfect place to see Mr. Watt! Fun little dive bar in the Los Angeles downtown area. Good food, strong drinks and a nice dark setting that makes one feel like they are on an old galleon.
This is a great bar so make sure you go check it out if in the area. It is located at:

Reviews, comments, and possible putdowns for Mike Watt & The Secondmen…
This was my revival! Mike Watt is one of my music heroes and every time I have seen this man play it puts a smile on my face. I’ve been following his spiel since his days with The Minutemen and, to me, it doesn’t get any better than a Mike Watt gig. What (Watt?) I’m trying to say here is that my review of this show is going to give it more stars than any other gig I’ve seen in the past ten years… Yes, even better than the best Clutch or Motorhead show!
Well, I think I’ve built up this performance enough so I’ll cut it short but I do have to say that when they broke out songs like Blue Oyster Cult’s “The Red and the Black” and the Minutemen’s “One Reporter’s Opinion” and “This Ain’t No Picnic” I could have passed on and been fully content.
So, having said all that, if you haven’t experienced any of the political punk movement and want to get a glimpse of some no-thrills and from the heart live music then I urge you to check out Mike Watt and the Secondmen. Here’s how you find out where they are playing…
