Melodi came back from New York and said she saw this great band called Throw Rag from The Salton Sea area of southern CA and we should check them out when they come out this way. Shortly after this conversation, we saw that they were playing The Troubadour in Hollywood and we were off. The band stepped out onto the stage and I remember thinking at the time that they were a nicely dressed bunch of lads…
Date: 1/16/2004
Venue: The Troubadour
City: Hollywood, CA
Set length: Roughly 60min
About two seconds into the show I knew we were in for a sweaty tattooed mess of a karate-kick-ass show! The snapshots speak for themselves and if you should ever come across a venue with the name Throw Rag on the marquee then do yourself a favor and buy a ticket. They have had a few lineup changes since these photos were taken but the shows are just as fun and the music is just as good. Make sure to buy the Captain a drink while there!
Quick sidenote: if you look at image 103, I think you’ll see Matt from The Bronx in the audience. I’m pretty sure that is him although I have not verified the ‘138’ tattoo on the back of his neck. If anyone knows them please let me know in the comments section so I can stop looking for photos of him and that damn tattoo.
If you are unfamiliar with Throw Rag’s music, purchase their Desert Shores or Tee Tot album first to give you a taste of what they are about.
Second sidenote: The first two and last two images in the gallery were images I took on a venture we did out to the Salton Sea to see The Slabs, Salvation Mountain, the Salton Sea, and Bombay Beach. I’ll post those on my travel website one day (www.PhotographsAroundTheWorld.com)
Not sure if they have an official website but you can check ’em out here!
