The Vigils 10:00 PM

The Cold and Lovely 12:00 PM
Jen emailed and said that she was playing at The Viper Room again with The Cold and Lovely. Great, I’m in! Mel and I decided to get to Hollywood a little early to get some dinner before the show. We parked behind the Whiskey, as we always do gaybygay.com, because it is the easiest in-and-out lot that is central to all the places we are going to this evening. If you are going to The Whisky, The Roxy, The Rainbow, or The Viper Room, I suggest parking behind The Whiskey as it is a well-lit lot and the attendant(s) are always… attentive?? Well, they are all very nice friendly and make it easy to get in and out when you need to.
Then, we headed up the street to The World Famous Rainbow Bar & Grill for some dinner. Nothing major was going on and we didn’t see Lemmy at the bar tonight – next time.
From there we walked down to The Viper Room, picked up our passes and went in.
My gear for the night was:
- Camera: Olympus M
- Flash: None
- Lenses: Just one… 17mm f/2.8
I’ve really grown to love The Viper Room. They have always been accommodating with their camera rules and have never had a bad night there – a long night (or two), yes, but never a bad one.
Reviews, comments, and possible putdowns for tonight’s lineup…
First band up was The Vigils. The band has a bio out there that sums it up better than I could come up with.
“The spirit of 50s rock ‘n’ roll, the attitude of 70s punk, and the sensibility of the 80s new romantics, The Vigils have culminated their varied influences to create a timeless sound, unique in any decade. Strangely reminiscent, guaranteed to strike a few heavy nostalgic chords, and yet at the same time, unabashedly original, unpredictable, and uncompromising. Rock and Roll’s for rebels again…“
The above was lifted straight from their Bandcamp bio located here
Unfortunately, I am writing this post many years after the gig so the specifics of the entire evening have escaped me.
The second band was Nightmare Air and, once again, I wish I was able to recall the details of the gig. Searching out the band now (in 2019), I am finding that I really like the band. I could see this trio playing with bands like Lush, Failure, and Swervedriver. Very cool music – go seek them out.
And the third group up tonight… The Cold and Lovely. This is a group that has a lot of roots in other “name” bands and they can definitely show that they are seasoned musicians and performers. Fun group!
Another fun evening at The Viper Room – you can check out a review from this evening here.
