The Start
This is the band I went to go see this evening and was surprised that there were so many other good bands playing as well – score! I was only familiar with Shiloe’s EP entitled “Please Remove Your Teeth From My Neck” and was hoping to hear more of the same this night. My first impression upon hearing their music on CD was that they would be a great support act for Sonic Youth, and their performance confirmed that impression. They definitely pulled off the sound of anything they recorded studio-wise in the live setting. I would classify them into a post-punk melody-driven trio whose sounds would lead a junkie to scrape the heroin residue from her fingernails for one last fix while their latest release, “…And Now The Screaming Starts,” is playing on the turntable. Do not file them alphabetically, rather put them in the vicinity of Slint’s “Spiderland,” Sonic Youth’s “Daydream Nation,” and Failure’s “Comfort.” I would like to hear Melissa take the mic a little more often as I think her voice would complement the overall sound into complete perfection. We haven’t heard it yet but I think Shiloe is climbing towards their epic and defining record, much like Mogwai’s “Come On Die Young.”
