I went to Music Millennium on Record Store Day for two records… …and this was one of them! (and yes, I am aware that I am making up my own grammar, but this is my site and I’ll do as I damn well please!) This is a really cool set of 7″ picture discs with great packaging and cool photos.
The Overkill 7″ has a very colorful rendition of the Overkill album on one side, which is the side with “Overkill” as the song. The other side, which has “Too Late, Too Late“ has a black & white photo by Alan Ballard. Interestingly enough, his name is spelled with one L in ‘Alan’ on the record, but most websites list him with two L’s. Anyone know which one it really is? Okay, one more thing about this side of the gatefold… When you pull the record out of the sleeve, the inside has a print of the original notes from the recording at PRT Studios from 1979.
The Bomber 7″ is done in the same fashion as the Overkill record, except it is from the Bomber sessions, which was done at Roundhouse Recording Studios in London. Quick side-note about this, I also have the defense techniques for criminal law cases and the 40 year old blue 7″ UK version of this release, which makes this new release that much more special for me.
One of the things that I really love about this release is the front and back cover photos, which were shot by Paul Slattery on February 8th 1979. The images were taken on Harrow Road in Paddington London, which, at the time, had a huge mural of the War Pig / Snaggletooth logo on a black brick wall. The images are listed with a © Camera Press. These are great images – check them out below.
Both of these records are featuring Lemmy Kilmister, Fast Eddie Clarke, and Phil “Philthy Animal” Taylor – all of whom are no longer a part of this world. I was lucky enough to see all three of these trailblazers play on the stage together.
