Pre-show banter…
Felicia contacted me once again and let me know that there is a cancer benefit being held at Malone’s. I believe it was something like Rockers Against Cancer… Something like that. Apologies if I didn’t get it right – I am writing this MANY years after the event. Not only did I want to come out and support the cause, but I also wanted to get the chance to photograph a bunch of bands, most of whom I had never heard of.
Venue Review…
I was just there recently and my only gripe was the lack of stage lighting knowledge this venue had. Well, if we are being honest here, most small venues just throw up a couple of lights and call it a day. This place however, spent some money on more than just a few lights and kind of overdid it. On top of that, the Saturation levels of reds and blues are set to a gazillion so even the naked eye picks up on the issue. But hey, at least their stages are lit. Other than my OCD rant on lighting, this venue is pretty okay for a few drinks and a place to catch some live rock-n-roll. Go support live music!
Reviews, comments, and possible putdowns for Masters of Reality…
A Black Sabbath tribute that spanned the Ozzy, Dio, and Ian Gillian eras. Outside of seeing Sabbath on the Born Again tour, I have never heard anyone cover any songs from this album, until this night. If I remember right, they did Zero the Hero, which was one of my favorite tracks from the Born Again album. Caroline from Allison Chains on vocals – not sure if she is their regular singer but I’m sold! She was great on all eras of Sabbath, and it definitely made my night when I heard Zero the Hero.
Here is a video I found of the band at the same venue just the month after tonight’s gig
