Reviews, Comments & Other Putdowns for this event (by Ray)

Melodi, Dave & I headed to Pomona for a little Autolux at The Glass House. We got there early and grabbed some grub at Joey’s BBQ and a few pitchers before heading over to The Glass House Bar for a couple more. Armed with a buzz and my Canon G9 grain machine we went in…

  • Venue Review: The Glass House
Not too packed but not empty enough where I could get front and center without some pushing and shoving so I opted to shoot from the side and in back. A little dark tonight but not too bad.

  • 1st band Review: MINI MANSIONS
An unsigned 3-piece indie band from Los Angeles who have great vocal harmonies. Pretty mellow and not too energetic but great music for this bill. Check ‘em out at…

  • 2nd band Review: JANU & THE WHALESHARKS
Another unsigned indie band but this 4-piece hails from Orange County, CA who also had a good sound for this show. Overall, pretty mellow. This is one of those bands whose recordings are pretty good but don’t expect an energetic rock show from them. Good music, mellow show! They have some good music for sale at…

  • 3nd band Review: AUTOLUX
This was my 5th or 6th time seeing the band but my first at this venue. The first time I saw them was many years ago (around the year 2000) at The Silverlake Lounge on what might have been their first show ever, not sure though. For those of you not familiar, let me fill you in on some history behind this band. This is a three piece band hailing from the Los Angeles area consisting of Eugene on bass & vocals, Carla on drums & vocals and Greg on guitar and vocals. The three came together as Autolux around the year 2000 and have been together ever since. Prior to Autolux: Carla played in Ednaswap for their first few albums. Eugene, I believe, was doing some music for a stage production and Greg played in Failure, The Replicants and did some work with a band called Lusk. Again, I digress on tonight’s show…

The band did what they do best, which is play with few interruptions, little talking and with a wall of sound(s). My favorite release by them has got to be their 2001 Demostration EP, which may be raw but it really captures the band as a whole. Much like the Tool demo, which is a little crude but it definitely captures the band at their hungriest. Again, I digress so back to Autolux. This band is definitely in my top 15 bands of all time and I urge you to at least go to their MySpace (linked below) to check out some of their music. If you like them they do have a few CD’s for sale. I have nothing to gain by saying this (meaning I don’t get a kick-back) but I urge you to support bands that are not the product of a marketing team trying to sell to the masses – or at least give them a fair shot before buying only songs you hear on terrestrial radio! Autolux is a great place to start when looking for new and interesting music but don’t take my word for it, go check ‘em out and decide for yourself. Nuff said…
